Lodge Garden

The grounds surrounding Halswell Lodge are a delight for both the serious gardener and the more casual visitor. Traditional Yew and Box hedging provides a backdrop to the carefully planned and planted flower borders that divide the garden into a series of smaller intimate spaces. With white roses cascading over walls and railings together with pink and cream floribundas flowering profusely close to parlour and kitchen windows there is always something to admire close at hand. Lupins, foxgloves and delicate cornflowers provide counter-balances to the roses and sitting within one corner - keeping itself almost to itself - is a giant gunnera. This most primeval of plants enjoys nothing better than having its feel in the wet of a stream while the leaves bask in full sunlight above. A barbeque area brings an added dimension to the garden and coupled with plenty of room for sun-bathing makes Halswell Lodge a perfect 'outdoor' dwelling.

Bird-song is another feature of this delightful garden and during the spring of 2007 we recorded the dawn chorus of what could be your nearest neighbours when you stay. Authentic and full of life please click below - and hear for yourself. Similarly we have the night-shift available for you to listen to as well.
